Turning Brown Tides Blue:
The story of how scientists revived Shinnecock Bay

As academics, a lot of what we do is focused on publishing our science in peer-reviewed journals and giving talks at professional conferences. These audiences are mostly comprised of scientists, practitioners, professionals, and students. With the help of Zak Ettlinger, a professional filmmaker who is now a biology teacher, we decided to make a documentary rather than writing a report.

Zak participated in one of our teacher workshops and had such an impactful experience that he approached us about doing a pro-bono documentary to tell our story. In this film, you can hear from the scientists firsthand about why we created the ShiRP program, how it has worked, what we’ve learned, and what inspires us.
