The Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program is the first and only effort to comprehensively look at the bay’s conditions and use restoration as a tool to stem the bay’s decline. Led by Stony Brook University scientists with decades of experience, the program is a combination of research, monitoring, restoration, and communication. Scientists and students within the Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program are working to better understand the dynamics of the bay environment, improve water quality, restore shellfish and eelgrass populations, and ultimately enrich the diversity of plants and animals living in the bay.
