NGO Partnerships

In 2020, the Pew Charitable Trusts and The Nature Conservancy, with funding from an anonymous private donor, initiated an east-coast wide program that purchased oversized oysters from commercial growers, identified appropriate restoration sites, and facilitated some of the necessary logistical, regulatory, and financial transactions to make such exchanges happen. ShiRP was the top restoration site in New York State to receive commercial oysters through SOAR, which were then outplanted onto our oyster reefs and in other designated areas, where they benefit the ecosystem.
