On September 6th, 2017 Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the beginning of the Long Island Shellfish Restoration Project. This project aims to plant millions of clams and oysters in five targeted areas around Long Island, including Shinnecock Bay. These shellfish will augment the restoration being undertaken by the Shinnecock Bay Restoration Program, which is a major initiative of IOCS and Stony Brook's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences.
