Our ShiRP team was honored to be on hand as the Shinnecock Bay Hope Spot was recognized by the Suffolk County Legislature during its meeting on March 10, 2026. Legislator Ann Welker presented us with an official Proclamation that celebrates the Shinnecock Bay Hope Spot. The ShiRP fisheries team completed a successful expedition in September 2024 pioneering new eDNA sampling technology

Rolex's Perpetual Planet program visits the Shinnecock Bay Hope Spot
In June 2024, our ShiRP team had the opportunity to host Rolex’s Perpetual Planet Initiative, Dr. Sylvia Earle, and members of Mission Blue at the Stony Brook Marine Station for a daylong visit. Rolex’s Perpetual Planet Initiative includes efforts to connect reporters and social media influencers with conservation success stories and Hope Spots in order to broaden audience exposure.
