Rolex's Perpetual Planet program visits the Shinnecock Bay Hope Spot

In June 2024, our ShiRP team had the opportunity to host Rolex’s Perpetual Planet Initiative, Dr. Sylvia Earle, and members of Mission Blue at the Stony Brook Marine Station for a daylong visit. Rolex’s Perpetual Planet Initiative includes efforts to connect reporters and social media influencers with conservation success stories and Hope Spots in order to broaden audience exposure.


Rolex staff brought invited journalists from Asia, Europe, and South America to Shinnecock Bay, where they learned about ShiRP restoration and the Hope Spot firsthand. The trip included classroom education, laboratory tours, a boat trip, and in-the-water lessons on eelgrass, oysters, and marine life.


The Pikitch, Gobler, and Peterson labs collectively participated in showcasing the bay and its habitats to this global audience.
